Qualifications

• Special Certificate is required.
• NLT 2 years relevant experience as a consultant or equivalent post board certification.
• NLT 8 years full-time employment as a Consultant or equivalent post board certification, including years in fellowship training in internationally accredited institutes. For UAE Nationals, Clinical Fellowship training may substitute for experience; each year of fellowship counts as two years of clinical experience for specified countries.

Responsibilities

• Leads and supervises delivery of high quality, evidence-based care.
• Diagnoses, manages and treats patients under care and trains junior medical staff.
• Implements hospital policies, supports performance management, and ensures adequate medical coverage.
• Oversees clinical activities of junior staff and ensures adherence to admissions, consultations and discharge procedures.
• Participates in on-call coverage including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
• Leads multidisciplinary meetings to plan safe, holistic patient care.

Job description

The Consultant Physician is responsible for leading and supervising the delivery of high quality evidence-based care effectively and efficiently diagnosing managing and treating all patients placed under the post holder s care. The Consultant Physician is expected to be an example of clinical excellence within his or her specialty and to provide leadership and training for junior medical staff.

Managerial Administration Supports

implements and follows all hospital departmental and divisional initiatives policies and procedures Helps lead and implement the organization s performance management system including peer review and the productivity and utilization review processes Participates in the organization s performance management system including peer review and the productivity and utilization review processes Assists with scheduling and supports the Division Chief in ensuring that adequate medical coverage is provided within the Division at all times Attends Divisional meetings as required Assists the Division Chief in the recruitment of new medical staff when appropriate Assumes other administrative or clinical duties as requested by the Division Chief

Technical Diagnoses and treats patients according to established standards of best practice for the post holder s specialty

The Consultant Physician s clinical duties include but are not limited to the following

• Oversees the clinical activities of the junior medical staff and is assumes responsibility for the care they provide
• Complies with all established hospital polices regarding admissions consultations daily patient care surgical procedures discharge protocols outpatient and follow up practices
• Practices appropriate utilization of the organization s resources
• Leads ward round reassesses both inpatients and outpatients on a regular basis in line with established best practice
• Accurately documents all relevant clinical information in a clear and timely fashion in accordance with established procedures
• Regularly reviews results of all investigations and modifies treatment as required
• Liaises with other medical specialties and support services for additional input as required
• Actively participates in multi-disciplinary meetings to help plan effective safe and holistic care for individual patients
• Ensures preparation of patients for all procedures including obtaining informed consent
• Accepts clinically appropriate referrals from the Emergency Department primary care other departments specialty clinics walk in patients and patients referred from other hospitals
• Participates in and ensures the provision of out of hours on call coverage on a rotational basis including evenings nights weekends and public holidays as required
• Communicates clinical information to patients and the patient s family and friends with consent of the patient in a timely manner
• Maintains a good working relationship with members of staff and promotes collaboration and a team-based approach to patient care
• Performs other clinical responsibilities as assigned

Helps lead quality improvement within the Department Supports a culture of regular audit and encourages the use of audit results for improving clinical practice Supports the reporting investigation and response to untoward incidents
