Job summary

Abu Dhabi Health Services .Co ( Psc ) is seeking a Consultant Physician to lead and supervise delivery of evidence-based care across the department. The role requires leadership of junior staff and compliance with hospital policies.

The successful candidate will diagnose and treat patients, participate in performance management, scheduling, recruitment support, and ongoing CME activities, while ensuring safe care and effective use of resources across shifts and on-call coverage.

Qualifications

• Required: Tier 1 – minimum 2 years relevant experience as a consultant or equivalent post board certification.
• Tier 2 – minimum 8 years full-time employment as a Consultant or equivalent post board certification (including fellowship training).

Responsibilities

• Oversees junior medical staff and ensures care quality.
• Implements hospital policies on admissions, consultations, and discharge protocols.
• Leads ward rounds, documents clinical information clearly, and ensures timely communication with patients and families.
• Participates in and supports on-call coverage, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Supports quality improvement, audits, and continues medical education within the department.

Job Description

The Consultant Physician is responsible for leading and supervising the delivery of high quality evidence-based care; effectively and efficiently diagnosing, managing and treating all patients placed under the post holder’s care. The Consultant Physician is expected to be an example of clinical excellence within his or her specialty and to provide leadership and training for junior medical staff.

Responsibilities

Managerial/AdministrationSupports, implements, and follows all hospital, departmental and divisional initiatives, policies and procedures

Helps lead and implement the organization’s performance management system, including peer review and the productivity and utilization review processes

Participates in the organization’s performance management system, including peer review and the productivity and utilization review processes

Assists with scheduling and supports the Division Chief in ensuring that adequate medical coverage is provided within the Division at all times

Attends Divisional meetings as required

Assists the Division Chief in the recruitment of new medical staff when appropriate

Assumes other administrative or clinical duties as requested by the Division Chief

Technical
Diagnoses and treats patients according to established standards of best practice for the post holder’s specialty. The Consultant Physician’s clinical duties include but are not limited to the following:

• oOversees the clinical activities of the junior medical staff and is assumes responsibility for the care they provide
• oComplies with all established hospital polices regarding admissions, consultations, daily patient care, surgical procedures, discharge protocols, outpatient and follow up practices
• oPractices appropriate utilization of the organization’s resources
• oLeads ward round; reassesses both inpatients and outpatients on a regular basis, in line with established best practice
• oAccurately documents all relevant clinical information in a clear and timely fashion in accordance with established procedures
• oRegularly reviews results of all investigations and modifies treatment as required
• oLiaises with other medical specialties and support services for additional input as required
• oActively participates in multi-disciplinary meetings to help plan effective, safe and holistic care for individual patients
• oEnsures preparation of patients for all procedures including obtaining informed consent
• oAccepts clinically appropriate referrals from the Emergency Department, primary care, other departments, specialty clinics, walk in patients, and patients referred from other hospitals
• oParticipates in and ensures the provision of out of hours (on call) coverage on a rotational basis including evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays as required
• oCommunicates clinical information to patients and the patient’s family and friends (with consent of the patient) in a timely manner
• oMaintains a good working relationship with members of staff and promotes collaboration and a team-based approach to patient care
• oPerforms other clinical responsibilities as assigned
  Quality & SafetyHelps lead quality improvement within the Department

Supports a culture of regular audit and encourages the use of audit results for improving clinical practice

Supports the reporting, investigation, and response to untoward incidents

EducationFosters a culture of learning, development and continuous improvement across the Department by:

• oPromoting and assisting in the instruction, guidance and supervision of junior medical staff (required)
• oFacilitating the provision of essential training relevant to clinical staff in the specialty
• oShowing commitment to Continued Medical Education (CME)

Promotes and participates in clinical research and publication

Keeps abreast of the current, relevant literature and the latest trends and technologies in the industry

b. Tier 2: NLT 8 years full-time employment as a Consultant or equivalent post board certification (includes years in fellowship training) in internationally accredited institute.

Clinical Fellowship training following primary specialty board may substitute for experience as follows:
Each year of clinical fellowship is counted as two years of clinical
experience
Only applicable to clinical subspecialty fellowship in the following
countries (Australia, New Zealand, Canada, UK, USA) or HAAD accredited
fellowship programs.
