Job summary

Healthpoint in Abu Dhabi is seeking an experienced Consultant Anaesthetist to provide perioperative care across a broad range of surgical specialties. The successful candidate will deliver safe anaesthesia, manage complex cases, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

You will supervise juniors, contribute to clinical protocols, and participate in audits, CME, and research, while upholding patient safety and high standards of care.

Qualifications

• Medical degree MBBS or equivalent from an accredited institution.
• Completion of a recognised residency training programme in Anaesthesiology.
• Fellowship or Board Certification in Anaesthesiology such as Arab Board, UK CCT/CESR, American Board, or equivalent.
• Eligibility for or possession of a DOH licence as a Consultant Anaesthetist in Abu Dhabi.
• Minimum of 5 years of post-certification experience at Consultant level.
• Demonstrated expertise in perioperative medicine, difficult airway management, regional anaesthesia, and complex surgical anaesthesia.
• Experience supporting multiple surgical specialties including orthopaedics, general surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, urology, ENT.
• Strong clinical judgement, leadership, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
• Proficiency in electronic medical records and clinical documentation.
• Commitment to patient safety, clinical excellence, and continuous professional development.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert anaesthetic care for elective, emergency, and complex surgical procedures across multiple specialties.
• Conduct comprehensive pre-operative assessments, anaesthesia planning, and risk evaluation.
• Administer and monitor general, regional, and local anaesthesia techniques.
• Manage post-operative recovery, pain control, and perioperative complications.
• Provide airway management and resuscitation support during emergencies and critical care situations.
• Participate in multidisciplinary discussions to optimise patient care and surgical outcomes.
• Support the management of critically ill patients and contribute to intensive care services.
• Ensure accurate, timely, and comprehensive clinical documentation.
• Supervise and mentor junior physicians and other healthcare professionals.
• Contribute to the development of clinical protocols, patient safety initiatives, and quality improvement programmes.
• Participate in departmental meetings, audits, continuing medical education, and research activities.

• Minimum of 5 years of post-certification experience at Consultant level in a reputable hospital setting.
• Demonstrated expertise in perioperative medicine, difficult airway management, regional anaesthesia, and complex surgical anaesthesia.
• Experience supporting surgical specialties such as orthopaedics, general surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, urology, ENT, and other subspecialties.
• Strong clinical judgement with the ability to manage high-acuity and critically ill patients.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
• Proficiency in electronic medical records systems and clinical documentation.
