Overview
Assists patients, families, and significant others with their psychological, social, environmental, financial, and emotional problems by conducting the needed psychosocial assessments that are related to presenting problems/concerns by providing the necessary interventions needed to enhance patient quality of living.
Responsibilities
- Managerial – Involved in the daily management of workload allocation within the specialist area, considering changing/competing demands and prioritizing caseloads. Potential supervision of junior staff and ensuring adherence to rules and policies applied in the Section/Department/Facility.
- Technical – Take care management responsibility for vulnerable clients, including comprehensive assessments of needs, formulation of a social care plan, and identification of resources. Coordinate delivery of social care plans and liaise with government or charity agencies as appropriate. Conduct initial comprehensive person-centered psychosocial assessments and plan/implement individual care strategies with the service user, caregiver, and the MDT; update patient files as required by JCI. Act as an advocate to center patient wishes in long-term care planning. Consider legal issues for admitted patients and liaise with authorities as needed to discharge safely. Participate in safe and effective decision making to facilitate safe, timely discharge, and liaise with other agencies to maintain professional relationships. Direct patients and families to appropriate resources, follow up on psychiatric visits from other hospitals, and document observations. Respect patient rights and beliefs. Provide crisis interventions as needed. Participate in complex discharge planning with the MDT and in multidisciplinary team meetings to advocate for patient/family needs. Engage in clinically appropriate psychoeducation and therapeutic interventions for psychosocial needs.
- Quality & Safety – Ensure compliance with safety and quality control programs, infection control, confidentiality, occupational health and safety policies, and standard operating procedures. Contribute to policy planning, maintain high standards of clinical record keeping, and exercise professional governance.
- Education – Deliver and participate in training and continuing education as required by hospital policy and DOH licensure. Participate in department programs/committees, orientation and training of new employees, and ongoing professional development. Ensure regulatory requirements, licensure, and mandatory training are completed within required time frames and maintain clinical supervision as needed.
- SEHA Compliance Guidelines – Comply with SEHA facility policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Maintain confidentiality of information, promote customer service standards, and foster professional relationships within and across departments. Perform other duties as assigned and adhere to occupational health and safety, materials management, and emergency preparedness policies. Ensure personal effectiveness and dress appropriately for the role, build partnerships for client-centered care, and mentor UAE national staff where applicable.
