Scope of Work
The Chief Accountant is responsible for supervising and executing daily accounting operations related to Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and General Ledger to ensure accurate accounting, timely month‑end closing, and effective compliance with IFRS standards and internal controls. The role supports financial reporting, audits, taxation, and reconciliation activities and ensures accuracy and integrity of financial records.
Duties, Responsibilities & Authorities
- Financial Operations Execution
- Supervise and manage day‑to‑day AR, AP, and GL accounting activities.
- Ensure adherence to accounting policies and internal control procedures.
- Review and post accounting entries, journal vouchers, and reconciliations.
- Support process improvements and ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial transactions.
- Accounts Payable (AP)
- Oversee processing of supplier invoices and ensure payments based on approved contracts and terms.
- Review vendor reconciliations and AP ageing; follow up and resolve long outstanding balances.
- Coordinate with Procurement, Treasury, and business units to ensure smooth payment operations.
- Monitor supplier advances, project cost allocations, retention balances, and related schedules.
- Accounts Receivable (AR)
- Supervise customer invoicing, collection follow‑up, and reconciliation of customer accounts.
- Review AR ageing reports, monitor overdue balances, and highlight collection concerns.
- Coordinate with Sales/CRM and Legal for contract‑related matters and dispute resolution.
- Monitor customer advances, retention receivables, and credit limit usage.
- General Ledger & Month‑End Closing
- Oversee month‑end closing ensuring all accruals, provisions, amortizations, and adjustments are recorded accurately.
- Prepare and review balance sheet schedules, account reconciliations, and inter‑company transactions.
- Ensure compliance with IFRS and internal accounting standards.
- Maintain and update chart of accounts and financial structure in ERP.
- Audit & Compliance
- Support external and internal auditors by preparing schedules, documentation, and responses.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of statutory and internal audit requirements.
- Assist in ensuring VAT and Corporate Tax compliance and regulatory reporting.
- System & Process Improvement
- Support automation and ERP system enhancements to improve efficiency.
- Identify areas for strengthening internal financial controls and process optimisation.
- Authorities
- Review and recommend approval of accounting transactions as per Delegation of Authority.
- Propose process improvements and corrective actions on accounting matters.
- Supervise and guide junior accountants and team members.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in accounting / finance; Professional qualification (ACCA / CPA) preferred.
Experience
- 5–6+ years in accounting including supervisory experience in AR/AP/GL systems.
- Strong ERP system experience and advanced Excel & reporting tools.
Skills
Excellent accounting knowledge, IFRS standards, tax basics, reconciliations and closing processes.
