Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Biology, Zoology, Marine Science or related field; and/or knowledge and skills equivalent to 5 years aquarium experience and education, and Supervisory experience of 1 year or more
  • PADI Openwater certification or equivalent; PADI Divemaster or above desirable
  • Computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office package
  • Oversees and applies animal husbandry principles with emphasis on safety for employees, guests and animals
  • Mentor, coach and direct junior level positions with confidence
  • Knowledge of local and exhibit animals: common and scientific names, external anatomy, disease identification, behavior
  • Apply husbandry techniques to ensure animal health, including quarantine and water quality analysis
  • Oversees cultures of live feed, invertebrate and fish rearing procedures
  • Understanding of life support systems and troubleshooting capabilities
  • Plans and executes quarantine protocols, disease recognition and treatments
  • Clear and professional communication with managers and subordinates; proper email/report etiquette
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Public interaction with guests; experience in PR/Marketing and external communications
  • Networking with international aquarium entities, vendors, and internal departments

About The Role

To Provide and oversee healthy and sanitary living conditions, proper nutrition and constant care for all marine and freshwater animals. Fulfills delegated leadership functions within the marine aquarium area. This includes managing feeding schedules, daily maintenance of in-tank and external facilities, water analysis, and animal observations. Leads marine educational/research/conservation learning experiences for guests and the local community.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Makes daily observations of animals and reports any abnormalities or change of normal animal behavior to necessary Management personnel. Participate in the decision and problem solving process
  • Maintain and oversee aquarium exhibits in accordance with routine and preventative maintenance programs, ensuring that self and team follow standards
  • Leads and assists in developing solutions in problem areas of responsibility on a daily basis.
  • Maintains and performs routine and preventative maintenance on all dive and exhibit equipment. All malfunctions are immediately reported to the immediate supervisor.
  • Maintains dietary, disease recognition, fish treatment, and water quality programs are carried out according to standard by self and team members
  • Continuous personal and professional development must be maintained.
  • Acquire advanced knowledge in animal husbandry through structured participation, listening, observation, and learning resources provided.
  • Compile and interpret information from animal records, animal observations and departmental logbooks.
  • Develop a professional approach to the career and function as a team member showing consideration, tolerance, cooperation, reliability and the ability to accept and give constructive criticism.
  • Performs all reasonable duties related to animal and guest needs as requested by management and as the department requires regardless of time, day or location.
  • Ensures that Marine Animal Adventure interactions are carried out to a high standard
About You
  • PADI Openwater Scuba Certification or equivalent; PADI Divemaster or above- desirable

  • Possesses and delivers knowledge of local and exhibit animals including: identification by common and scientific names, external fish anatomy, disease identification, animal compatibility and behavior.
  • Utilize and guide proper husbandry techniques to ensure the optimal health of animals to include quarantine procedures, water quality analysis and record keeping.
  • Oversees successful and consistent cultures of live feed regimes, invertebrate and fish rearing
  • Has full understanding of all life support systems, with the ability to troubleshoot any abnormalities, report and gain knowledge in solution for future application
  • Plans and executes quarantine protocols, regimes, disease recognition and treatments, animal transport and handling
  • Communicate in a clear and professional manner with managers and subordinates, both verbally and written, with proper email and reporting etiquette
  • Must be able to work independently and as well as in a team
  • Must enjoy guest interaction with public speaking skills for PR, Marketing, and external parties in related field
  • Networking skills with other International Aquarium entities, vendors, other departments, and all levels within the organization
