Job summary

AECOM Middle East Limited - Al Ain seeks an experienced Civil Engineer to supervise gravity sewer pipelines, manholes and related structures on-site in the UAE. You will ensure works meet IFC/shop drawings, specs and authority requirements, review shop drawings, and coordinate with QA/QC, surveyors and authorities.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's in Civil Engineering, 10+ years in infrastructure projects with sewerage experience, and strong coordination skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
• Minimum 10 years of experience in infrastructure projects with sewerage and utility works
• Experience in the UAE/GCC and familiarity with TAQA Water Solutions standards preferred
• Strong knowledge of sewer network construction, testing, commissioning, and authority approvals
• Excellent coordination, communication, and stakeholder management skills

Responsibilities

• Supervise construction of gravity sewer pipelines, manholes, inspection chambers, house connections and associated works
• Ensure works comply with IFC/shop drawings, specs, method statements, approvals, ITPs and authority requirements
• Monitor excavation, shoring, dewatering, bedding, pipe laying, jointing, backfilling and compaction
• Coordinate with Survey Team on pipeline alignment, gradients, invert levels, coordinates and connections
• Review shop drawings, RFIs, technical queries, inspection requests and method statements for responsiveness
• Supervise leakage tests, deflection tests, CCTV inspections and commissioning activities
• Review CCTV reports and close defects and corrective actions
• Coordinate sewer interfaces with roads, water, utilities and buildings
• Identify construction constraints and coordinate resolutions with stakeholders
• Liaise with Resident Engineer, Contractor, Design QA/QC, Surveyors, Inspectors and authorities
• Lead Sewer Inspectors and site supervision teams
• Monitor contractor performance including manpower, equipment, workmanship and sequencing
• Ensure non-conforming works are identified, rectified and closed
• Enforce HSE requirements for deep excavations, confined spaces, shoring and lifting
• Coordinate inspections, testing approvals and authority clearances with TAQA WS
• Support snagging, commissioning and project handover
• Verify as-built drawings and project close-out documentation
• Prepare and maintain site progress reports and inspection logs

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise the construction of gravity sewer pipelines, manholes, inspection chambers, house connections, laterals, tie-ins, and associated sewer structures.
• Ensure all works comply with approved IFC drawings, shop drawings, specifications, method statements, material approvals, ITPs, and authority requirements.
• Monitor excavation, shoring, dewatering, bedding, pipe laying, jointing, pipe surround, backfilling, compaction, and reinstatement activities.
• Verify pipeline alignment, gradients, invert levels, coordinates, and connection details in coordination with the Survey Team.
• Review and provide technical input on shop drawings, RFIs, technical queries, inspection requests, method statements, and related submissions.
• Supervise and witness leakage tests, deflection tests, flow tests, CCTV inspections, testing, and commissioning activities.
• Review CCTV inspection reports and ensure timely closure of defects, observations, and corrective actions.
• Coordinate sewer interfaces with roads, stormwater, potable water, irrigation, dry utilities, buildings, and other infrastructure systems.
• Identify construction constraints, utility clashes, and technical issues, and coordinate effective resolutions.
• Liaise with the Resident Engineer, Contractor, Design Team, QA/QC Team, Surveyors, Inspectors, Client representatives, and relevant authorities.
• Lead and provide technical guidance to Sewer Inspectors and other site supervision personnel.
• Monitor contractor performance, including manpower deployment, equipment utilization, workmanship quality, and construction sequencing.
• Ensure non-conforming works are identified, rectified, re-inspected, and formally closed.
• Enforce compliance with HSE requirements, particularly for deep excavations, confined space entries, shoring systems, lifting operations, and dewatering activities.
• Coordinate inspections, testing approvals, and authority clearances with TAQA WS and other relevant stakeholders.
• Support snagging, de-snagging, final inspections, commissioning, and project handover activities.
• Review and verify as-built drawings, testing records, O&M manuals, authority approvals, and project close-out documentation.
• Prepare and maintain progress reports, site records, inspection logs, and technical documentation.

Preferred Skills

• Strong understanding of QA/QC procedures and inspection requirements.
• Proficiency in reviewing technical drawings and engineering documents.
• Knowledge of utility coordination and multidisciplinary infrastructure interfaces.
• Ability to lead site teams and manage multiple stakeholders effectively.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities in a construction environment.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 10years of experience in infrastructure projects, with significant experience in sewerage networks and utility infrastructure works.
• Experience in the UAE/GCC and familiarity with TAQA Water Solutions (TAQA WS) standards and procedures is highly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of sewer network construction, testing, commissioning, and authority approval processes.
• Excellent coordination, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
