Qualifications

• PhD or Masters in Design, Design Technology, or a relevant field
• Ability to teach Undergraduate programmes
• Minimum of 5 years industry experience
• Previous teaching, training or workshop facilitation experience is preferred
• Excellent Communication skills: programmes are delivered in English, and so fluency in English is essential

Responsibilities

• Undertake teaching and assessment duties on academic programmes
• Supporting colleagues in the delivery of courses and other activities to support the delivery of the University’s aims
• Deliver lectures and practical workshops on design technology and innovation frameworks
• Introduce students to technology-driven design principles, emphasising how emerging tools shape global products, services, and systems
• Support students in applying design thinking and technological methods to analyse user needs, evaluate concepts, and deliver innovative solutions
• Mentor and supervise students, providing effective, well-documented and timely feedback, both formative and summative
• Develop and maintain strong links with business and industry, external organisations and the education sector
• Work collaboratively with colleagues at our Dubai Campus as well as at our UK and other campuses where applicable

Heriot-Watt University Dubai is currently inviting applications for Adjunct Faculty positions in Technology and Innovation.

Roles & Responsibilities for our adjuncts may include:

• Undertake teaching and assessment duties on academic programmes.


• Supporting colleagues in the delivery of courses and other activities to support the delivery of the University’s aims.


• Support in developing relevant materials in appropriate formats. Contribute to the content, design and delivery and the quality of teaching and learning, in consultation with colleagues and within the international structures and mechanisms established by the University.


• Deliver lectures and practical workshops on design technology and innovation frameworks.


• Introduce students to technology-driven design principles, emphasising how emerging tools shape global products, services, and systems.


• Support students in applying design thinking and technological methods to analyse user needs, evaluate concepts, and deliver innovative solutions.


• Develop creative problem-solving skills by integrating strategic thinking with technical capabilities, enabling students to address real-world challenges within their projects.


• Mentor and supervise students, providing effective, well-documented and timely feedback, both formative and summative. Provide pastoral support, recognising when to refer a student for further support. Play a key role in the delivery and support of an excellent student learning and living experience at HWU.


• Support the assessment of portfolios of work, including workshop activities, research, ideation, design development, prototyping and reflective practice.


• Develop and maintain strong links with business and industry, external organisations and the education sector.


• Work collaboratively with colleagues at our Dubai Campus as well as at our UK and other campuses where applicable, and with external networks both for the exchange of information, to share learning and to form relationships for future collaboration.


• The typical time commitment includes contact hours within the classroom, preparation time, assessment and feedback time, all over a 12 to 15-week teaching and assessment semester

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years industry experience.

Applicants must be in the United Arab Emirates and on a Resident visa and must provide a NO-Objection-Certificate (NOC) from the visa sponsor. Nationals & Golden visa holders do not need to provide a NOC. Right to work documentation required from candidates will include.
