Position Overview
Responsible for reviewing development applications to identify land use compatibility concerns and risks to thesafety, well-being and security of citizens, the community and City. Identifies necessary studies to be conducted bydevelopment community to further review and mitigates safety impacts of proposed developments on themunicipality and its citizens. Validates studies through internal review utilizing appropriate tools and consultationwith other departments.
Qualifications and Experience
• University Degree in land use planning and membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners and OntarioProfessional Planners Institute, and designation as a Registered Professional Planner (RPP).• Minimum six (6) years’ experience, preferably in a municipal environment.Extensive working knowledge of related applicable legislation, practices and principles of emergency planning, landuse planning and public safety.• Knowledge of or ability to learn United Nations Disaster Risk Reduction – Making City’s Resilient objectives.• Knowledge of or ability to learn sound knowledge of emergency management principles and theory, includinghazard identification and risk assessment.• Sound knowledge and application of Ontario’s Provincial Planning regime including the Planning Act, theProvincial Policy Statement, Provincial Plans and the Regional Official Plan.• Knowledge of processes prescribed under the Environmental Assessment Act.• Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to communicated complexinformation toa variety of audiences and engaging in consultation processes.• Excellent strong leadership, project management, interpersonal, communication, presentation, problem solving,analytical and decision-making skills.• Experience using plume modelling software and dangerous goods databases and guidebooks.• Knowledge of, or demonstrated ability in, the City’s core competencies and relevant functional competencies.
